The Lord's Day and The Sabbath by Aloysius Johnson
The present study was born out of a need in 1997 to gain insight into the relationship of - the Ten Commandments in general and the Sabbath in particular - to the Christian church. The claim by Sabbatarians that a seventh-day Sabbath is required of God’s people then and now, deepened the desire to go in-depth in our study.
Due to the nature of the subject, we decided to leave no stone unturned (interestingly enough, we have been in touch with messianic Jews living in North America in order to solicit a response concerning the Law and the believer in Christ). As our research progressed, our interest mushroomed into a full-fledged independent study to provide relevant information on the subject especially to the laypersons who may not have benefited from a seminary or theological college education. The work should serve to benefit scholars and church leaders as well.
We have presented our findings at a popular level. This is intended to make the study much easier to follow. Sometimes studies of this nature are conducted and written by scholars for scholars.
The study began close to the Christmas season of 1997 and was published in 2011, which turns out to be twelve plus years of continuous work. We do hope the work achieve the desired result.
